About
Internationally recognised artist Wendy Slee
describes her work as visual poetry.
After university opened up a world of digital media, Wendy combined her new skills with a love of photography and writing and went on to create award winning works that have seen her talents sought out by people around the world.
``Initially, I started taking commissioned jobs for special gifts. I would work a collection of photos into art that was of great personal significance for those who commissioned it or who would receive it,’’ Wendy said.
From there she broadened her scope to include personalised marketing and commercial documents, then branched into reproducing, enhancing and manipulating old photos.
``The old adage `the camera never lies’ is a total fallacy,’’ she said, having successfully added – and removed – people into or out of photographs.
Through her cover art and illustrations for books and CDs Wendy has gone on to gain strong recognition in the USA, where she is regularly commissioned by studios in LA.
She has won awards for her artwork, including the
Creatrix Studios 2005 New Millennium Award for Visionary Art
and, closer to home,
– a judge’s award at the Mullalyup Muster 2007,
– The First Prize at the Mullalyup Gallery’s 2008 Art Award,
– first prize in the Professional Digital Art section of Busselton “Through My Lens” competition in 2007 and 2008, and in 2009 first prize in both the Professional Digital Art and the Professional Photography sections.
She finished 2008 with a Highly Commended in the Signature South West inaugural Shire of Busselton Art Award.
Wendy exhibits her art at the ArtGeo Arts Complex in Busselton.
Currently she is working on a set of oracle cards and has recently published an inspirational collection of spiritual art and writing as a coffee table book.
